Niroshana Story

Hi I am Niroshana, I met an ADDC member in the Maldives at my last job working in a resort about two years ago.

I am Sri Lankan

I have a nine-year-old son who I only get to see for one month each year for nine years. Growing up in village meant that I had limited skills and education, so I had no choice but to work overseas, I was desperate to change my situation, and I needed help to be there for my family.

setting up my own business

Since then, ADDC Non-Profit Initiatives has sponsored me to come to Australia for a month, to understand the western way of life and help me set up my own business in Sri Lanka so I can then help my local community.

COVID-19 Disaster

Our plans have been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Sri Lanka’s economy. No tourism meant no work, no money and no food. ADDC Non-Profit Initiatives has been very supportive throughout these times and helped us organise a food drive to help our starving local community. Along with local volunteers, we have organised and distributed 12,000 meals so far to the disadvantaged people in my community.

Thanks to the people in Australia, we have six boxes of clothing waiting for us; however, because of full lockdown, we are unable to collect and distribute.

With your help, we can continue to help more people in need.
